Why PICRA?
The pharmaceutical industry is under great financial pressure to reduce the
time it takes to get a new drug to market, and to decrease R&D costs at the
same time. The old strategy of large, vertically integrated corporations developing
drug candidates has been replaced by a new strategy that uses a number of smaller
companies with the flexibility and speed to meet pharma's changing needs. The
strength of PICRA is that each member company retains the advantages of its
smaller size while collectively offering all the components of the entire drug
development process. Client companies can take advantage of as many, or as few,
services as they wish.
How does PICRA work?
PICRA itself makes no profit. Member companies do not take (or add) a percentage
for recommendations to other PICRA companies. It is to the mutual advantage
of all PICRA members to share non-IP marketing information and knowledge. Client
confidentiality is maintained as always on a one-to-one basis. Member companies
remain free to recommend whomever they wish to clients, but non-PICRA companies
are not eligible to benefit from the information sharing.
Where is PICRA?
There are two sub-organizations of PICRA, one in North America and the other
in Europe.

Membership
Membership costs nothing but is selective. Validated quality, commitment to
speed and unwavering integrity are key criteria. While BASi has been the driving
force in establishing PICRA, recommendations for membership can come from any
of the members. The services that any new companies offer must complement the
existing services. Companies with overlapping services will not be eligible,
unless there is a clear market need for such expanded services or geography
dictates that the overlapping services are of low consequence and serve different
sectors. Meetings of all member companies are held periodically in North America
and twice each year in Europe. Member companies agree to designate a representative
to serve as a contact and to attend these meetings. Members also can be product
companies who have synergies with the existing in vivo sampling product
range.
